Bio
Music has been my passion since 5th grade.
My high school awards include best jazz soloist at a festival in Chicago , percussion section leader in symphonic and marching band and the John Philip Sousa Band Award my senior year of high school.
I participated in Band, Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble (and Brass Ensemble as a drummer) and as the leader of the basketball and hockey pep bands while attending Wayne State University (Detroit, MI). During my final year, I was a student conductor of the Symphony Band.
As a music educator, I spent 12 years as the band and choir teacher at Truman High School (Taylor, MI). Highlights included being employee of the month, taking many successful trips to Disney World, participating and receiving high ratings at MSBOA band festivals., competing in MSBOA, MCBA and Scholastic marching band events.
I've taught music theory and appreciation at Wayne County Community College District and at Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn.
My current regular gigs include the Michigan Philharmonic Orchestra & the Michigan Phil Jazz Trio.
The Rhythm Kings which is a top 40 band that performs at weddings, parties, casinos and festivals.
The Uptown Jazz Trio is also group I play in for corporate events, private parties, and other functions.
Studio sessions, one nighters, musical theatre, church events, etc.
My first performance with a national act was at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts with Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormet. Playing original Frank Sinatra charts, Gershwin, and some of their own classic hits was a real privilege - and test! Many "national act' gigs have followed through the years including: Don Rickles, Al Martino, Jerry Vale, the Irish Tenors, Glen Campbell, Bob Anderson, Michael Amantè, Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant and many more. I will always be grateful for the break Johnny Trudell (and Jeff Trudell) has given to me and all of the great stories I was privy to during breaks and dinner time prior to the gigs.
My goals include maintaining a busy performance schedule and looking to land a serious road or extended length gig - musical theatre or with a group. I am a member of the Detroit Federation of Musicians - Local 5.
I am always looking for more work! Please contact me if you are in need of a drummer/percussionist.
